Holiday Toy Drive
The 39th Annual Bensenville Toy Drive was a huge success with toys, books and stockings going to over 360 children. The Toy Drive is sponsored by the Village of Bensenville and supported by donations and volunteers from throughout the community.
The Drive collected donations of new toys for the last month. Many Bensenville civic organizations, businesses and private citizens also supported the event with cash donations to help cover costs, including the Chamber of Commerce and Victory Auto Wreckers. The Senior Citizen Club kicks-off the Drive each year at their November lunch, bringing generous supplies of toys and gifts. Volunteers from Fenton High School Student Council, Blackhawk School and Faith Community Church Youth Organization all helped gather, wrap and distribute the toys.
When families arrive at the Teen Center on distribution day, Santa is there to greet the children and take a free family photo. Teen Center volunteers do crafts with the children while they wait for their package from Santa and holiday cookies and refreshments are available.
Each child in the program receives two gifts. They also receive a stocking stuffed with small items such as puzzles, coloring books, flash cards and crayons. Each family also receives a $10 gift certificate from local grocery stores including EdMar, Dominick’s and Wal-Mart.
