Flooding & Floodplain Management
There are three mains sources of flooding within the limits of Village of Bensenville. These sources are Willow Creek, Silver Creek (also known as Bensenville Ditch), and Addison Creek (as well as its tributaries). Each of these sources has its own Floodway and Floodplain.

While the Village cannot prevent flooding; in addition to routine maintenance activities the Village does take several steps to reduce its impact. Before a project is constructed, Village Staff works with the developer to ensure that the proposed project minimizes the impact to adjacent properties. A new project must meet the guidelines established in the Village Code, the DuPage County Stormwater and Floodplain Ordinance and other regulations established at the state and federal levels. Since the Village of Bensenville holds a partial waiver community status, all aspects of development within the Special Management Areas (SMA) are reviewed and approved by the DuPage County Department of Economic and Community Development.
