Elgin O'Hare Western Access Project Construction Updates
Check back regularly for updates on IL Route 390 / Elgin O’Hare Western Access construction through and around the Village of Bensenville. All work is weather dependent. Drivers should continue to watch for changing traffic patterns, milled surfaces, uneven pavement levels, and traffic shifts. Use caution at all times. Traffic Shift Updates for EOWA 4662 / South Frontage Rd-- 10/24/2016
South Frontage Rd: A traffic shift to the new South Frontage Road between York Road and Supreme Drive is currently scheduled for Monday, November 7 at 4 p.m. The intersection of York Road and Thorndale Ave will be removed and the intersection of the South Frontage Road and York Road will be opened. This shift will allow for the IL-390 and I-490 interchange to be constructed. This will be the final configuration for contract 4662 at this location.

EOWA 4644 / Supreme Dr - Update
Supreme Dr – Due to unforeseen utility conflicts, the detour will remain in place until the permanent traffic signals are installed at Supreme Dr/Frontage Roads. At this time, the traffic signal installation is anticipated to take place in November 2016. During this time, there are more utilities that need to be installed through this corridor. A definitive time line of construction will be provided once the utility conflicts have been resolved. 

Traffic Shift Updates for EOWA 4662 / Thomas Dr Detour-- 10/10/2016
Thomas Dr - The northbound lane of Thomas Drive at Thorndale Ave will close at 7 a.m. on Monday, October 17 and a detour will be posted. This detour will route traffic via Foster Ave and York Road to Thorndale Ave. This closure is necessary because it will allow for the construction of the intersection at Thomas Drive and the South Frontage Road. This detour will last 22 days and will reopen by 4 p.m. on Tuesday, November 8. Thomas Drive Detour Plan_01262016

Sievert Court - A portion of Sievert Court will close at 7 a.m. on Monday, October 18 and a detour will be posted. This detour will route traffic onto a newly constructed road that will connect Thorndale Ave and Sievert Court. This closure is necessary because it will allow for the construction of the intersection at York Road and the S Frontage Road. This detour will last 25 days and will reopen by 7 a.m. on Saturday, November 12. Upon the completion of this detour Sievert Court will no longer connect with York Road but will connect to the S Frontage Road (see attached for the realignment).

Traffic Shift Updates for Supreme Drive and Thorndale Ave- 09/19/2016
Supreme Drive (4644) : Beginning at 8 am Wednesday, September 22, 2016, Northbound Supreme Drive between the Frontage Roads will be shifted to the right (east). Northbound and southbound traffic 700’ south of the South Frontage Road will be shifted to the outside with one lane open in each direction. The southbound lanes of Supreme Drive between the Frontage Roads will continue to be closed for pavement reconstruction with a posted detour. This traffic shift will allow the contractor to continue pavement reconstruction in these locations. This shift is expected to remain in place until early October 2016.

Thorndale Ave (4662): Beginning at noon on Saturday, September 24, 2016, The westbound and eastbound lanes of Thorndale Ave between Higgins Creek and Supreme Drive will be shifted north onto a newly constructed runaround. Two lanes of traffic will remain open in each direction. This traffic shift will begin at noon on Saturday, September 24 and will last until mid-November. This traffic shift will allow the contractor to perform pavement reconstruction in this location.

Frontage Road Traffic Shifts Scheduled To Begin This Month (between I-290 and York Road) - August 19
Traffic shifts are scheduled to begin at the end of August to move traffic onto
a new frontage road system along Thorndale Avenue between I-290 and York Road to allow for the construction of the new Illinois Route 390 Tollway east toward O’Hare International Airport.

As part of the Illinois Route 390 Project, the Illinois Tollway is improving and constructing new local access roads along Thorndale Avenue, including a new system of frontage roads. New frontage roads will accommodate local traffic and will provide existing businesses and residential areas with access to the new Illinois Route 390 Tollway.

Electronic message signs and construction signage will be put in place in advance to alert drivers to dates and times for the scheduled traffic shifts. IL Route 83 (Industrial Dr to Mark St) - July 11, 2016
A traffic shift to the east side of the roadway is scheduled to take place along IL Route 83 due to the ongoing Tollway construction. The northbound shift will begin on Monday July 18, 2016 starting at 9:00 PM IL-83 between Industrial Dr and Mark St will be reduced to two lanes in each direction. The southbound shift will begin on Tuesday July 19, 2016 starting at 9:00 PM. Weather permitting, during the traffic shift, pavement removal, roadway, storm sewer installation and earthwork will occur to accommodate the construction for the future interchange of Illinois Route 83 at Illinois Route 390. This traffic shift will remain in effect for until Oct 1, 2016. During this time, left turn movement onto Bryn Mawr Ave from IL-83 north and south bound will be restricted.

IL Route 83 (Industrial Dr to Mark St) - May 3, 2016
A traffic shift to the west side of the roadway is scheduled to take place along IL Route 83 due to the ongoing Tollway construction. On Thursday May 5, 2016 starting at 9:00 PM IL-83 between Bryn Mawr Ave and Mark St will be reduced to two lanes in each direction. Weather permitting, during the traffic shift, pavement removal, watermain, storm sewer installation and earthwork will occur to accommodate the construction for the future interchange of Illinois Route 83 at Illinois Route 390. This traffic shift will remain in effect for until July 22, 2016. During this time, left turn movement onto Bryn Mawr Ave from IL-83 north and south bound will be restricted.

Supreme Dr (south of Thorndale Ave) - April 8, 2016
Supreme Dr south of the Thorndale Ave intersection will go into stage traffic starting Tuesday April 19, 2016 with one lane open in each direction (no left turn lane) due to ongoing Tollway construction project. Weather permitting, reconstruction of Supreme Dr (up to approximately 500 feet south of intersection at Thorndale Ave) and utility relocation work will be performed during this stage. This traffic stage is anticipated to remain in effect until Mid-August 2016.

Supreme Dr (Thorndale Ave to 700 feet north of Thorndale Ave)- July 11, 2016
Supreme Drive from Thorndale Ave to approximately 700 feet north of Thorndale Ave intersection will be completely shut down to traffic starting at 9:00 AM on Wednesday April 13, 2016 due to ongoing Tollway Construction. Weather permitting, the closure is to remain in effect until approximately Mid-August 2016. During this time, a new intersection with westbound Frontage Rd will be constructed. Traffic will be detoured using Thorndale Ave-York Rd- Supreme Dr.

IL Route 83 (Bryn Mawr Ave to Mark St)- April 05, 2016

A traffic shift is scheduled to take place along IL Route 83 due to the ongoing Tollway construction. On Monday April 18, 2016 starting at 9:00 PM IL-83 between Bryn Mawr Ave and Mark St will be reduced to two lanes in the northbound direction. The southbound traffic will also be reduced to two lanes starting on Tuesday April 19, 2016 at 9:00 PM. Weather permitting, during the traffic shift, box culvert, storm sewer installation and pavement patching will occur to accommodate the construction for the future interchange of Illinois Route 83 at Illinois Route 390. This traffic shift will remain in effect for approximately 5 weeks.
