Local School Boards meet to coordinate Common Core
The Boards of Education for Fenton High School District 100, Wood Dale School District 7 and Bensenville School District 2 are holding an Education Summit on at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 5 at W.A. Johnson School, 252 Ridgewood Ave., Bensenville.
The summit will feature presentations by each district on its implementation of the Common Core State Standards. The three boards are meeting to determine how to improve communication and coordination of instruction so all students are college and career ready when they graduate from high school.
This is the first time the three boards have met jointly in several years. There has been ongoing communication among school district administrators regarding curriculum and student achievement, but the Boards have not met formally.
“The issue of education is not just inside the classroom, we as a community need to come together and focus on what we need to do to ensure the best education for our students from kindergarten to high school and beyond,” said District 2 Board President Patty Reyes. “By holding the Education Summit, we can learn about what each district is doing and how we can work together for the betterment of our students and community.”
Fenton High School Superintendent Dr. Kathie Pierce said the districts have been working together to align to the Common Core State Standards.
“We look forward to the opportunity to share our progress and to hear more about the elementary districts’ work toward these new standards. The more we collaborate, the more prepared out students will be for the future,” Dr. Pierce said.
